Your first day in a new job, although exciting can also be a little bit daunting. As a major provider of health services across a range of varied settings, NSW Health employs over 100,000 staff so it is natural as a new starter to feel a bit overwhelmed.

For whatever role you are starting in, NSW Health have programs and processes in place to help ease your transition into your new job and support you to thrive in your new work environment.

Preparation for your new job

Ahead of your commencement with NSW Health you will have been sent your letter of offer and an information package. The information package will contain a range of documents. Some of these will need to be filled out and returned prior to starting your new job such as:

  • your signed letter of offer
  • employee details including your Tax File Number.

Other details may be needed in advance so that NSW Health can organise your personnel file, computer logins, building access and passwords.

What to bring with you

Depending on where you will be working you may be required to bring a number of household items along with you such as a tea cup, drink bottle, cutlery and crockery as these types of things are not generally catered for. You will be provided with somewhere to store your items.

You also need to bring your own food and drink. Hot and cold water is provided for your use and fridges are available.

Some workplaces will be located close to shops and other amenities for you to utilise. It is worth finding out prior to your first day the location and quality of any local shopping facilities.
